2025년도 대학(원)생 장학생 선발 요강
1. 선발 주요 일정
가. 신청서 접수 : 4월 21(월)~ 6월 20(금) ※ 접수마감일 이전 도착시까지 유효
나. 지역공관심사 : 6월 23(월)~ 7월 2일(수)
다. 중 앙 심 사 : 7월 24(목)
라. 장학금 지급 : 9월 29(월) 이후 ※ 실제 수령일은 개인별로 차이
2. 장학금액 : 최우수 장학생 5,000불(2명 내외), 우수장학생 3000불(4명 내외), 일반장학생 1인당 1,500불 (63명 내외)

※ 분야별 배정인원은 신청자 수 및 재원규모에 따라 조정될 수 있음
※ 동포학생은 미국의 시민권 또는 영주권 소지자를 의미함
※ 한국 유학생은 F1 또는 A, G 비자 등 학위과정 이수가 가능한 비자 소지자를 의미함
4. 신청자격 및 제출서류
가. 신청 자격
○ 신청일 기준 미국지역 정규 4년제 대학 및 대학원에서 full-time으로 학위과정을 이수중인 한인(Korean 또는 Korean-American) 학생으로 직전 1년(2024 가을학기와 2025 봄학기*)의 대학(원) 성적 제출이 가능한 사람(다만, 아래 기준을 충족해야 함)
- 대학원 입학예정자는 신청가능하며 입학허가 관련 증빙서류 포함
* 특별한 사정이 있는 경우 2024년 봄학기 성적 제출할 수 있음(소명자료 반드시 제출)
- GPA 성적 제출자의 경우 최근 1년간 GPA 성적 3.0이상 (4.0 기준),
* Pass/Fail 등 다른 방식의 성적제출자의 경우 제한없음
- 대학의 학부 및 대학원 재학중 KHS 장학금 수혜사실이 없는 자
(대학 및 대학원 재학 중 각각 1회에 한하여 KHS 장학금 수혜 가능. 학석사 통합과정은 1회에 한정)
나. 제출 서류(①~⑤는 공통, ⑥, ⑦, ⑧은 해당자만 제출)

② 대사관 한글홈페이지 정보마당/교육정보)에서 “재미한인장학기금” 검색
영어는 http://overseas.mofa.go.kr/us-en/brd/m_4513/list.do에서“Korean Honor Scholarship”검색 또는 워싱턴 한국교육원 홈페이지(www.kecdc.org)에서 신청서 (application form)를 내려 받아 사용
② 성적증명서 1부(대학 발행 원본)
※ 지원서 제출 당시 직전 1년간의 성적이 포함된 전체 성적표를 제출하되, GPA의 경우 4.0 기준으로 환산된(graded credits) 성적을 제출(GPA 만점이 4.0이 아닌 경우 신청자가 4.0을 기준으로 환산한 성적표와 원본 동시 제출)
※ 성적이 모두 Pass or Fail로 기재된 경우 원본 그대로 제출
③ 추천서(소속학교 교수) 1부 - (가급적 대학 Seal이 있는 용지 사용 권장)
④ 자기소개서(Personal Statement) 1부 (500단어 이내, 영문 12 point, single spaced)
※ 본인 자신이 아래의 주제로 작성하여야 하며 대외에 공개될 수 있으므로 유의하여 작성바람
Submit a one-page narrative in English that provides a vivid picture of yourself as an individual detailing your personal history, family and education backgrounds, professional and cultural opportunities that you have explored, impacts of these experiences on your personal growth, strengths and skills, and career goals. It should demonstrate your achievements and potential as a student scholar with Korean heritage in the U.S. as well as your career aspirations in alignment with the mission of the Korean Honor Scholarship.
⑤ Résumé 1부 (논문 게재 실적, 입상실적, 특별활동, 봉사활동, leadership 등 포함)
※ 대학원생의 경우 Research Publications, Presentations 등의 Information을 기재
(학부생도 실적이 있는 경우 제출)
※ Resume 관련 증빙서류 첨부, 첨부 불가능한 경우 그 사유를 기재한 소명자료 제출
⑥ 예능계 장학생 지원자만 제출:
1) 미술 부문 지원자
- 최근 3년이내에 창작한 본인 작품 이미지 10점(jpeg 파일, 각 파일은 1MB보다 적은 용량), 비디오아트나 영화전공자의 경우 최대 3개의 비디오 작품을 저장한 USB 드라이브 제출,
- 다음 형식에 따라 작품내용을 기재한 인쇄본 같이 제출 1)지원자 이름, 2)작품이름, 3)재료(MEDIUM), 4) 작품 크기 (비디오작품의 경우 길이), 5)창작연도
2) 음악 부문 지원자는 본인의 연주모습(20분 분량)을 반드시 다음 3가지 포맷 중의 하나를 선택하여 저장한 USB(※ Video 혹은 녹음테이프는 안됨) 1매를 제출
- Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, GOM Player
⑦ 입양학생 : 입양사실 증빙서류(출생증명서, 입양사실 증명서)
장애인 학생 : 자동차 운전면허증 사본, 장애인 단체 추천서, 기타 심사위원이 인정할 만한 서류 등
⑧ 한국어능력 가산점 (항목당 2.5점 최대 5점 범위 내) 대상자(해당자만 제출)
○ "대한민국 이외의 국가에서 중학교 및 고등학교를 졸업한 동포학생“에 한하며, 다음
서류 중 하나를 제출
※ 미국 등 외국 소재 고등학교에서 한국어과정 수강 학생의 경우 성적증명서 1부 (B+ 이상)
※ SAT II 한국어 시험에 응시하여 받은 성적표 사본 (700점 이상)
※ 국립국제교육원(또는 한국교육과정평가원) 한국어능력시험(TOPIK)에 응시하여 받은 한국어능력인증서 사본 (5등급 또는 6등급)
※ 아메리칸 카운슬 주관 NEWL 한국어 시험 성적표 사본
5. 선발 기준 및 절차
가 선발기준 : 심사위원회에서 학업성적, 추천서, 에세이, 이력사항 등을 종합적으로 고려하여 선발

6. 기 타
가. 제출된 서류는 일체 반환되지 않으며, 심사내용은 공개되지 않음
나. 대학원 진학예정자의 경우 진학 관련 증빙서류를 별도로 제출하여야 함
다. 자기소개서는 언론 등 외부에 공개할 수 있음
라. 지원서는 대학 소재지 관할 총영사관에 제출함을 원칙으로 함

2025 THE KOREAN HONOR SCHOLARSHIP(KHS) Selection Guidelines
1. Important Dates for Year 2025 Contest
○ Application period: April 21 ~ June 20, 2025, *Valid only if received by the end of the period
○ First round evaluation at regional consular offices: June 23 ~ July 2, 2025
○ Final round evaluation by Central Selection Committee: July 24, 2025
○ Scholarship Award presentation: after September 29, 2024
2. Amount of Scholarship: Best Honor Scholarship - $ 5,000 (2 students or so)
Excellent Honor Scholarship - $3,000 (4 students or so)
Honor Scholarship - $1,500 (63 students or so)
3. Allocation of Awards
Will be subject to change according to the number of applications in each category and the amount of funds available.

*Best and Excellent Honor Scholarship is included in the total award number
4. Qualifications
(1) At the time of application, an applicant must be a full time 4-year college or graduate student in the U.S. who can submit transcripts for the previous one academic year (Fall, 2024 ~ Spring*, 2025). Especially student who gets graduate admission should submit the relating documents.
* If not available, Spring 2024 is also accepted if the reason for not being available is submitted with the evidence).
※ In case the applicant submits GPA transcript, the average grade point for the previous year should be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 basis (It’s not applied to P/F transcript).
(2) Any students whose parents are Korean (either one or both) or any legally adopted Korean-American students are welcome to apply.
(3) Scholarship will be awarded once in undergraduate and graduate level respectively.
(Past beneficiary in graduate level must not apply for this scholarship, Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s program students are awarded once)
5. Required Documents
(1) Application form: available at http://overseas.mofa.go.kr/us-en/brd/m_4513/list.do
(or search for ”‘Korean Honor Scholarship” in any search engines)
(2) Official school transcript, including the 2024-2025 academic year
※ If the GPA in the transcript is not based on a 4.0 basis, the applicant must convert all the GPA grades into those of a 4.0 basis. Submit both the converted grades record and the official original school transcript. (It’s not applied to P/F transcript)
(3) A letter of recommendation from a professor at the applicant's institution (Sealed recommendation letter is preferred)
(4) A Personal Statement in English by the applicant: up to 500 words (12points, single spaced)
※ Applicants must write under the following guideline :

(5) Résumé (including records of awards, publication, extracurricular and volunteer activities, leadership, etc.). Related evidence or documents should be submitted
※ Graduate students(undergraduate students if available) should list research publications and presentations in their résumé.
(6) Applicants of music or art field only: either one of the followings
○ Art applicants must submit a USB drive that contains 10 still image files (jpeg, each smaller than 1MB) and/or up to 3 video art pieces(for video art or film-making applicants). Submit your best and most current original artwork created within the last 3 years. Document each image with the following set of information and include a print copy in the package: 1) Name of the Applicant, 2) Title of the Artwork, 3) Medium, 4) Dimension or Length of the Video/Film, 5) Year of Creation.
○ Music student must submit a USB drive that a 20-minute long his/her own performance is recorded in. (Video or cassette tape will NOT be accepted.)
※ USB must be submitted by one of the following recording types:
Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, and GOM Player.
(7) Adoptee and Students with Disabilities only: Documents to prove disability or adopted (such as copy of applicant's driver's license, or birth certificate etc. by related organization, other supporting documents)
(8) Only for Korean-American students who did not graduate middle and/or high school in Korea: every items of the followings (if applicable)
- School transcript for the Korean language course(s) taken at a high school in the U.S.A. and foreign countries except Korea (B+ or higher)
- SAT II Korean test score (700 point or higher)
- "Certificate of Proficiency in Korean (Grade 5 or 6)", available by taking TOPIK (Test of
Proficiency in Korean) administered by National Institute for International Education or Korea Institute of Curriculum & Evaluation .(http://www.topik.go.kr).
- NEWL/Korean Test Score by American Council for International Education.
6. Selection Criteria and Process
□ Selection Criteria
○ Each Committees will comprehensively consider the submitted documents such as GPA, Recommendation letter, Personal Statement, Resume etc.
□ Scholarship for regular students (AC, AG, KC, KG)
○ Submit applications to the regional consular office near your college or university.
※ Applicants from the Washington D.C. area (DC, MD, VA, WV) may submit the application directly to the Office of Education Minister Counselor at the Embassy of Korea, Washington, D.C.
→ First round evaluation at regional consular offices
→ Final evaluation at Central Selection Committee
→ Approval by the Korean Honor Scholarship (KHS) Committee Chairman
→ Finalized
□ Scholarships for Specials (SM, SA, SD, AS)
○ Submit applications directly to the Office of Education Minister Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Washington, D.C.
→ Evaluation at Central Selection Committee → Approval by the Korean Honor Scholarship Committee Chairman → Finalized
7. Other Information
○ Applications will NOT be returned.
○ Unqualified applicants will NOT be reviewed and the evaluation process is confidential.
○ Applications must be submitted to the regional consular office CLOSEST TO YOUR
HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION
